Gujarat Coast Yields 87 Charas Packets Worth Over Rs 40 Crore
Ahmedabad, June 18: In a major drug bust, Gujarat police have recovered a staggering 87 packets of charas, a cannabis derivative, from the state's coastline over the past few days. The seized contraband is estimated to hold a street value of over Rs 40 crore.
The majority of the haul, 81 packets, was found in Kutch district, with 40 packets recovered on Monday alone. These packets were discovered washed ashore in areas like Nal Sarovar, Jakhau, and Mandvi. Superintendent of Police for Kutch (West), Mahendra Bagadiya, informed that this seizure comes on the heels of the recovery of abandoned packets containing methamphetamine, another illegal drug, by the Kutch police.
Porbandar district also saw its share of the haul, with police recovering six packets of charas from the coastal village of Odadar on Monday.
The source of these packets and how they ended up on the shore remain under investigation. The recovered charas will be sent for forensic examination to confirm its contents. This incident marks another instance of drugs being seized along the Gujarat coastline, highlighting the need for continued vigilance by authorities.
