Following the failure of the Wrestling Federation of India to hold elections, United World Wrestling takes action.
After the World Wrestling Federation suspends India, there will be no tricolour or anthem at the World Championship.
The UWW has decided to withdraw from the World Federation of India (WFI). This step was done in the absence of a reaction from WFI to the elections. The WFI election was given 45 days, but due to a lack of response, the UWW has opted to suspend membership.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is India's wrestling governing body. Its headquarters are located in New Delhi, India.
WFI developed the Pro Wrestling League competition in 2015 to promote the sport. It included six teams from six cities in India, each with 11 players, both indigenous and international.
The Indian Olympic Association's acting CEO, Kalyan Chaubey, acknowledged the change, which means that while India's wrestlers will compete in the World Championships next month, they will do so as neutrals rather than under the national flag. Furthermore, if India's wrestlers win the gold medal, the national song will not be performed.
The world body informed the IOA of the decision in writing. "The IOA has received a communication and will decide on the future course of action, including the selection of teams for the World Championships," an official stated.
The World Championship selection trials were scheduled on August 25 and 26 in Patiala. However, the event's destiny is currently unknown. When it issued a strongly worded statement criticising the treatment and arrest of the protesting wrestlers in June, the UWW threatened to suspend India.
