Shooter Rubina Francis Clinches Bronze, Secures Another Medal for India at Paralympics

In a stunning display of skill and determination, Indian para-shooter Rubina Francis has clinched the bronze medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics. This achievement marks a significant milestone in her career and assures India another prestigious medal in the international sporting arena.

On Saturday, India's shuttler Sukant Kadam guaranteed another medal at the Paris Paralympics by securing a position in the men's singles SL4 semifinal against fellow Indian Suhas Yathiraj.

Rubina, a 25-year-old from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, finished third out of eight competitors with a final score of 211.1. With 236.8 points, Sareh Javanmardi of Iran won gold, and Aysel Ozgan of Turkey grabbed second place with 231.1 points. Clubfooted Rubina raised India's total medal tally to five and became the country's first female pistol shooter to win a medal at the Paralympics.

The day before, in the men's 10m air pistol (SH1), Manish Narwal added silver, and compatriot Mona Agarwal took bronze. Avani Lekhara created history by successfully defending her women's 10m air rifle championship, which she had won in Tokyo.

This bronze medal adds to India's growing tally at the Paris Paralympics, highlighting the country's rising prowess in para-sports. Rubina's success is also a testament to the increasing support and recognition that para-athletes are receiving in India, inspiring many young athletes with disabilities to pursue their dreams in sports.

In a brief interaction after her victory, Rubina expressed her joy and gratitude, dedicating her win to her family, coaches, and supporters who have been with her throughout her journey. "This medal is not just mine; it's for everyone who believed in me and supported me," she said with a beaming smile.
