Paralympics: Three personal bests in shot put by Ravi Rongali, but no medal

Ravi Rongali of India finished admirably sixth in the men's F40 shot put final on Sunday, the third day of the Paris Paralympics' athletics competition. Rakshita Raju was eliminated in the preliminary heats of the women's 1500m T11 race. Rongali set a personal best with a distance of 10.63 metres. Rongali had previously won a silver medal in the Asian Para Games in China the previous year. Even with this outstanding score, it was only good enough for fifth in a very tough field.

Ravi Rongali of India finished admirably sixth in the men's F40 shot put final on Sunday, the third day of the Paris Paralympics' athletics competition. Rakshita Raju was eliminated in the preliminary heats of the women's 1500m T11 race. Rongali set a personal best with a distance of 10.63 metres. Rongali had previously won a silver medal in the Asian Para Games in China the previous year. Even with this outstanding score, it was only good enough for fifth in a very tough field.

 

In his performance, Rongali threw 10.44 metres on his first throw and 10.49 metres on his second. On his third try, he achieved his best throw of 10.63 metres. Ravi, who participated in para-javelin and para-badminton as well, was pleased with his performance on Sunday. As he left the pitch, beaming, he gestured to his jersey's Indian tri-color.


 

Miguel Montero of Portugal won the gold medal with a throw of 11.21 metres. With a throw of 11.09 metres, Mongolia's Battulga Tsegmid won silver, and Iraq's Garrah Tnaiashâ the current Asian Para Games championâ won bronze. Denis Gnezdilov, a neutral paralympic athlete from Russia who won a gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics and is now the world champion in para athletics, came in fourth place with a throw of 10.80 metres. The F40 class is reserved for short-st statured para-athletes.

 

Rakshita, 23, had earlier in the day finished last in Heat 3, with a timing of 5:29.92 seconds, out of four racers. The final was filled by the two runners from each of the three heats. Shanshan, China With a clocking of 4:44.66 seconds, he beat South Africa's Lausanne Coetzee, who recorded a season-best 4:45.25 seconds, to win Rakshita's heat. Athletes in the T11 category have visual impairments, which can range from total blindness to the ability to sense light but not the form of a hand at a distance. T11 athletes typically need guides when running.

 

Preethi Pal, who placed third in the women's T35 100m race with a timing of 14.21 seconds, becoming the first athlete from India to win a medal at the Paralympics. The 23-year-old Preethi, an Uttar Pradeshi farmer's daughter from Muzaffarnagar, will compete in the T35 100m women's final later in the day.
