David Warner, the opener for Delhi, equaled Chris Gayle's record of fifty-plus scores in Twenty20 cricket worldwide. At Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy Stadium On Sunday 31 March, Warner scored his 110th fifty-over run in the format with a quick-fire half-century against Chennai. Warner reached the coveted target held by the renowned Caribbean striker as he hit his fifty in just 32 balls.
From the start of the innings, Warner led the CSK bowlers in the Indian Premier League that day. In just 32 balls during the ninth over of the game, the batsman reached his fifty. Prithvi Shaw's supporting role combined with Warner's terrific attack allowed Delhi to reach 90 runs in the first nine overs of the match.
David Warner got off to a fast start against CSK. In the fifth over of the game, the striker applied maximum pressure and hit Deepak Chahar with three consecutive hard hits. And if that wasn't enough, at the last end of the powerplay, Warner and Shaw came together and absolutely destroyed Mustafizur Rahman. In that over, Mustafizur scored 20 runs which changed the momentum of the game.
Together, the two scored 93 runs and formed an opening combination that was Delhi's most prolific of the season. When Warner tried to reverse the round of Mustafizur Rahman in the tenth over of the game, he was removed. Warner had a good shot but Matheesha Pathirana, the smaller third man, took an incredible catch to end the partnership. After Warner's departure, Delhi saw a slight decline. At the time of writing, the team was 121/2 in 13.1 overs, down from their previous tally of 10. After Warner and Shaw were dismissed in two quick overs, Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant were at the crease.
