On Sunday, the 2024 Asian Surfing Championship team competition, the ‘Maruhaba Cup’, was held at the beautiful Tuluthdu Island in Maldives. Team India defeated Team China Taipei and the Chinese team won the trophy. Just a day earlier, India experienced its first wave at the Asian Games. During the Asian Surfing Championship, the best surfers from across the country compete in a team competition called the Maruhaba Cup. The Indian team defeated many strong opponents to win the silver medal. The Indian team, comprising Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, Sanjay Selvamani, finished the Heat 2 semi-finals in first place with a total score of 32.16 points.
In the same semi-final, South Korea finished third with 27.74 points, while Chinese Taipei finished second with 29.70 points. India competed with Asia's best team for second place in the final with a score of 24.13. China (22.10) and Chinese Taipei (23.93) finished third and fourth. Japan won the gold medal with a perfect score of 58.40.
Some of Asia's best sailors compete in a highly competitive team event called the Maruhaba Cup. Surfers Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D and Sanjay Selvamani from Team India displayed exceptional skills and teamwork throughout the competition. The Indian surfer performed well in the 2nd heat semi-final and finished first with a time of 32.16.
