2024's top cricket players worldwide

When assessing the world's top cricket players, there are a lot of factors to take into account. How does a 70-wicket haul in the IPL compare to a five-wicket haul in Test cricket? How much is an all-format cricket player worth? It seems that all-arounders have an advantage. You will undoubtedly have an advantage over a specialist hitter or bowler if you can impact the game in several different ways. Nevertheless, the finest performers in their field still have enormous worth, whether they are a Test cricket new-ball wizard or a T20 finisher with the willow in hand.

1. Ravindra Jadeja

Far and by the best all-rounder in Test cricket, Ravindra Jadeja is a full-fledged player. In addition to being a skilled hitter in all three forms, Jadeja is a superb spinner who can both hold and attack on the subcontinent. And that's before we even get to his fielding, which is among the finest in the world, I think. Although he averages 12 more runs with the bat than the ball in Tests, which is a sign of brilliance, his stats, like those of so many other all-rounders, do not adequately capture his effect on the game.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

The world's greatest bowler is Jasprit Bumrah. Whether it's the first over of a Test match or the final over of a white-ball final, Bumrah is the man you want holding the ball in his hands. There's no question about that at this moment. Because of his short run and jerky motion, he is hard for hitters to square up against. There are awkward angles made. When the circumstances permit, he can swing and seam the red ball. He also has a wicked bouncer, which is combined with some unplayable yorkers.

3. Rachin Ravindra

Similar to Jaiswal, Rachin Ravindra has made news rather rapidly. Ravindra, who played brilliantly in the World Cup and made an impression in the Test series against South Africa with both bat and ball, is an important member of the Black Caps in all three forms. The metrics do not yet fully convey Ravindra's level of excellence. The best is still to come for the all-rounder, who will just be 25 later this year, so don't be shocked if we see some more standout performances from him.

4. Heinrich Klaasen

It may be debatable to put a batter with little Test experience this far up. Even though Heinrich Klaasen has only played four Test matches as of this writing, his exceptional white ball striking demands that he be regarded as one of the top players in the world. In the history of the IPL, the South African has the second-highest strike rate. Klaasen is the only player to average 40 with the bat out of the top 13 players by career ODI strike rate. With the ability to end innings with big hitting and smash boundaries in the middle overs, the Pretoria native has become a sought-after player on the T20 circuit, capable of wrecking any bowling attack.

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become a sensation in international cricket. Two of his double hundreds versus England have set a number of records. But it's not just about the runs; it's also about how he's scored them. When needed, Jaiswal has dug in and attacked the new ball, displaying all the skill that has made him a skilled short-format player. With only 22 years old, the possibilities are truly endless. Jaiswal, who recorded the quickest 50 in IPL history, is destined to become a sensation across all platforms.

6. Joe Root

Even after a poor run, England's best hitter of all time had to earn a spot in these rankings. Joe Root is still a fantastic white-ball player and is ranked third in the Test batting rankings. For a guy who has 47 international hundreds and an average of just under 50 in both Tests and ODIs, his magnificent 122 not out in Ranchi was perhaps his best ever innings. At just 33 years old, Root has 11,626 Test runs under his belt, which would put him in contention to overtake Sachin Tendulkar for the record.

7. Daryl Mitchell

Despite his delayed entry into the world of international cricket, Daryl Mitchell has already had a significant influence. The New Zealand player, who averages above 50 with the bat in both Tests and ODIs, has also signed lucrative franchise contracts, one of which is with the Chennai Super Kings for the 2024 campaign. Mitchell has produced brilliant white-ball cameos and long Test knocks. Currently one of the most flexible hitters in the world, he is listed #1 on the Black Caps roster across all forms.

8. Pat Cummins

For Pat Cummins, the past twelve months couldn't have gone any better. Cummins led Australia to the World Cup championship, including a standout bowling display in the championship match, after reclaiming the Ashes and winning the World Test Championship. Following his 2023 election as the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year, Cummins sold for the second-highest price in IPL history at the 2024 auction. Along with his useful lower-order batting and versatile skill set with the ball, there are indications that he is becoming a better captain.

9. Kagiso Rabada

In 2014, Kagiso Rabada made his breakthrough on the international scene. He has now made a name for himself as an extremely successful fast bowler in all formats. Rabada is useful even on unfavourable conditions because of his control, velocity, and bounce. In Test cricket, he averages barely 22 with the ball, but he's established himself on the franchise T20 circuit. Rabada has thrived at the head of the South African attack following the retirements of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. He has the best strike rate of bowlers to play more than 18 Tests.

10. Shakib Al Hasan

There's more to life than the ICC rankings. Nonetheless, it is noteworthy that Shakib Al Hasan is ranked in the top three all-rounders in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is—especially considering how long he has maintained this calibre of performance. In all three forms, his batting average is greater than his bowling average. Even though Shakib is in his mid-thirties and has had a contentious career, he is still among the finest players in the world.
