On Friday night, a 20-year-old student from Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was reportedly discovered dead in her bed at the Karmahati ESI Hospital's staff quarters in the North 24 Parganas area. Police officers with knowledge of the case stated on Sunday that the woman used to live with her mother, a hospital employee, but they have not yet determined the cause of her death.

Her mother discovered the body of the second-year MBBS student. Her mother, who was on duty, called repeatedly, but the woman did not answer. According to a district police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, "the mother hurried home and broke into the quarters with the help of other adjacent people."

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that Ivy may have died by suicide. However, the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.
