A confrontation with security personnel in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday resulted in the deaths of five terrorists. According to the officials, two members of the security forces suffered injuries during the operation.
Following reports of suspected terrorists in the district's Behibagh region, security personnel closed off and searched Kadder on Wednesday night, sparking the start of the conflict. However, the security forces responded after the terrorists opened fire on them, turning the search operation into an encounter.
"On December 19, the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police conducted a joint operation in Kader, Kulgam, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists." Vigilant forces saw suspicious activity, and when confronted, terrorists opened fire heavily and indiscriminately. In an update on X, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated, "Our own troops successfully reacted."
Earlier this month, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist who was allegedly involved in a fatal October tunnel construction attack in Gagangeer, central Kashmir, was shot and killed by security forces in a Srinagar forest. Terrorists opened fire indiscriminately at Gagangeer in the Gund area shortly after the workers returned to the campsite in the evening, killing seven unarmed labourers and staff of a contractor working on a tunnel for the vital Srinagar-Leh national highway.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts of the security forces to counter insurgency in the valley. Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the region's peace and security.
