According to reports, three culprits who were reportedly involved in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur sustained injuries during an early Monday conflict in Pilibhit with a combined Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police force. According to police, the accused were Gurvinder Singh, 25, Virender Singh, also known as Ravi, 23, and Jaspreet Singh, also known as Pratap Singh, 18, who were all Gurdaspur residents.
The encounter happened in Pilibhit is Puranpur neighbourhood. The three were involved in a grenade attack on a police roadblock in Gurdaspur, Punjab, according to Amitabh Yash, Director General (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh Police. He stated, "The three were taken to CHC Puranpur for treatment right away after suffering severe injuries in the encounter." They were found in possession of two Glock handguns, two AK-47 rifles, and a sizable supply of ammunition, he said. "Legal actions are continuing and the situation on the ground is under control," Yash stated.
Gaurav Yadav, the Punjab Director General of Police, also took to X to share the encounter's details. A joint operation by UP Police and Punjab Police resulted in an encounter with three members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror module who opened fire on the police team, Yadav said, calling it a significant victory against a "Pakistan funded KZF terror module."
The operation has been widely lauded by locals and authorities for its swift action in neutralizing potential threats. Pilibhit, which has a significant Sikh population, has remained largely peaceful, and community leaders have called for maintaining harmony while condemning any attempts to disrupt peace in the region.
The UP STF has intensified its vigilance in the area and neighboring regions to prevent any resurgence of extremist activities. The arrests are expected to shed light on the group's strategies and international connections, with further arrests and operations likely in the coming days.
