Muzaffarpur, the headquarters of the Tirhut division in North Bihar, has experienced varied political representation over the years. The Congress party dominated the Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha constituency from 1952 to 1971, with the Janata Party winning in 1977 and 1980.

 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Ajay Nishad won with 666,878 votes, followed by Vikassheel Insaan Party’s Raj Bhushan Chaudhary, who secured 256,890 votes.
