Lalganj is one of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and has a parliamentary strength of 68. The Lalganj parliamentary constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes, falls in Azamgarh district and is also a sub-district. Azamgarh is the third most densely populated district in the state. The area is also known as Kathgarh Lalganj. It is one of the most backward districts in the state. Since it became a parliamentary seat, it has been registered as a reserved seat.
Lok Sabha elections 2019: The seat was won by BSP's Sangeeta Azad, who got 5,18,820 votes. BJP's Neelam Sonkar came second with 3,57,223 votes and SBSP's Dr Dilip Kumar Saroj came third with 17,927 votes.
