Lok Sabha Kheri is the largest district in Uttar Pradesh in terms of area, this district is rich in natural resources with rivers like Sharda, Ghaghra, which is also known as Terai where sugarcane is majorly cultivated. Most of the sugar is found in the state. It has a population of over 40 lakh, of which 21 lakh are men and over 18 lakh are women. After independence, Lok Sabha elections were held for the first time in 1957 on the Kheri parliamentary seat, in which the Socialist Party won. But after the initial defeat, the Congress made a comeback and kept it in its possession from 1962 to 1971.
Lok Sabha elections 2019: In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Ajay Mishra Teni won the Kheri seat by securing 6,09,589 votes. SP candidate Dr Purvi Verma came second with 3,90,782 votes and Congress' Zafar Ali Naqvi was third with 92,155 votes. CPE candidate Vipnesh Shukla finished fourth with 11,857 votes. Over 64 per cent voting was recorded in the Kheri Lok Sabha seat.
