JNU Students' Union Polls: Voting Concludes, ABVP Fears Rigging
Voting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students' union elections, held after a four-year gap, concluded on Friday. Polling began at 9 a.m. and continued till 5 p.m. A total of 66.3% voting turnout was recorded during this period.
After the voting, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) raised concerns about rigging. ABVP alleged that the voting started two hours late in the morning, highlighting the inefficiency of the election committee.
The ABVP also claimed that the election committee exhibited a biased attitude during the election process.
Apart from ABVP, other student organizations have also questioned the election process. The All India Students' Association (AISA) claimed there were discrepancies in the electoral rolls.
The Election Committee rejected all allegations. They maintained that the elections were conducted in a completely free and fair manner.
Counting of votes will take place on March 24.
This election is the first student union election in JNU since 2019. In the 2019 elections, AISA won the presidency.
In this year's election, there are 13 candidates contesting for the post of president. These include candidates from ABVP, AISA, SFI, and DUSU.
The results will be declared on March 24.
This election has the potential to change the balance of political power in JNU. ABVP has been trying to increase its influence in JNU for the past few years.
It remains to be seen whether this year's election is successful for ABVP or not.
