A suspect in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal has been arrested by Haryana Police, whose body was found in a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on March 1.
Narwal, 23 years old, was a Congress party worker who was studying for a law degree. She was attached to the party for almost ten years and actively took part in the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra.
After her body was found, the Haryana Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. The arrest has been made under the ongoing investigation process, with officials adding that more information about the accused and the motive of the murder is yet to be shared.
Narwal's relatives had previously declined to cremate her body until the culprits were arrested. Her mother, Savita, claimed that some party members were jealous of her daughter's rapid political ascension, which might have been the motive for the crime.
The arrest is a major milestone in the investigation, as the authorities continue to pursue all lines of investigation to bring justice to Narwal and her family.
