He defeated Samajwadi Party's Garib by a margin of 5,157 votes. The reserved seat of Saidpur is held by the Samajwadi Party. SP candidate Subhash Pasi defeated BJP's Vidyasagar Sonkar by a margin of 8,710 votes.
