Bachan Singh Arya is the two term elected MLA from Safidon Assembly constituency, Haryana. He is the former Minister in Government of Haryana. He has been elected to various political offices, including serving as a member of the state legislative assembly. Throughout his tenure, Arya has been a vocal advocate for policies that promote rural development, agricultural sustainability, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

Bachan Singh Arya is a prominent political figure in India, recognized for his dedication to grassroots development and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. With a career spanning several decades, Arya has made significant contributions to his constituency and has played a vital role in shaping regional politics.


Background

Bachan Singh Arya was born on April 5, 1955, in the Bhuslana Village of Safidon, Jind, Haryana. His family was an affluent farmer and his father's name was Ch. Ganga Ram. Bachan Singh Arya's early life was marked by challenges that shaped his future political career. He grew up in a rural area where he witnessed firsthand the struggles of the common people, particularly in terms of access to basic amenities like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. These experiences instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility towards his community. Since graduating from S.D. College Panipat in Haryana, he has obtained his master's degree in History. His academic achievements and a strong sense of social justice motivated him to enter public service, where he believed he could make a tangible difference in the lives of his fellow citizens.


Political Career

Bachan Singh Arya's political journey began at the grassroots level. His involvement with the Arya Samaj marked the beginning of Bachan Singh Arya's career in politics. In order to punish him for his opposition to social ills, he was sentenced to jail on multiple occasions. While Bachan Singh Arya was living in Arya Samaj and participating in social activities, the brilliance of his working style was attracting the leaders of political parties as well. Additionally, he was active in social movements. Arya's political career has been characterized by his focus on rural development, a cause close to his heart given his background.

 

During a speech that Bachan Singh Arya gave at an event in Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi, who was serving as Prime Minister of India at the time, was so pleased by him that he asked Mr. Arya to join the Congress Party. And in the year 1990, Bachan Singh Arya became a member of the Indian National Congress Party. He won his first Lok Sabha election in 1991 from the Safidon Assembly constituency, which he ran for as a candidate for the INC. He received a margin of victory of 22,030 votes against his opponent. Arya triumphed over all of his competitors and won with a significant number of votes; nevertheless, Rajiv Gandhi passed away as a result of a terrorist attack.

 

In the Haryana government, Bhajan Lal Bishnoi was elected chief minister, and Bachan Singh Arya was also sworn in as minister of state. In addition, Arya was entrusted with crucial state departments such as the Excise and Taxation, Education, Agriculture, and Housing Board during his tenure as Minister of State.


After being denied a ticket by the Congress in 2005, Arya ran as an independent in the Haryana Legislative Assembly election and won an unprecedented 43,721 votes.

 

Bachan Singh Arya ran again as an independent in the 2009 Haryana Legislative Assembly election, but Indian National Lok Dal party candidate Kali Ram Patwari defeated him. Bachan Singh Arya ran again for the INC party in the 2014 Haryana Legislative Assembly election, however this time he was defeated by 4165 votes. Bachan Singh entered the BJP in 2019 and ran for the Haryana Legislative Assembly, but he was defeated by 3658 votes.


He has been elected to various political offices, including serving as a member of the state legislative assembly. Throughout his tenure, Arya has been a vocal advocate for policies that promote rural development, agricultural sustainability, and the empowerment of marginalized communities. His initiatives have often focused on improving infrastructure, such as roads and schools, and ensuring access to healthcare and clean water in remote areas.


Bachan Singh Arya has made notable contributions by spearheading the implementation of diverse rural development initiatives. Through his guidance, numerous communities inside his electoral district have witnessed enhancements in their infrastructure, encompassing the establishment of roadways, bridges, and public edifices. Arya has played a crucial role in initiating educational programs that attempt to improve literacy rates and offer practical training to young people.

 

Aside from his contributions to rural development, Arya has also been a fervent proponent of agricultural reform. He has advocated for agricultural policies that provide financial assistance to farmers, such as subsidies for seeds and fertilizers, and also initiatives that encourage the use of sustainable farming methods. His endeavors have significantly enhanced the well-being of numerous farmers in his electoral district, rendering agriculture more lucrative and less susceptible to market volatility.

Like many politicians, Bachan Singh Arya has faced challenges and controversies throughout his career. His strong stance on certain issues has sometimes led to conflicts with other political leaders and factions. However, Arya has remained steadfast in his commitment to his principles, often prioritizing the needs of his constituents over political expediency.
