The BJP will maintain its dominance in the Jammu region, with Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) candidate Omar Abdullah trailing by 41,024 votes in Baramulla against independent candidate Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Er Rashid. In a notable turn of events, both Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti conceded defeat even as vote counting continued. In Jammu & Kashmir, the National Conference and the BJP each won 2 seats, while independent candidate Abdul Rashid Sheikh also secured a victory.
According to the Election Commission's statistics, jailed former MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid achieved a significant lead over Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency, surpassing him by more than 125,000 votes. "I think it's time to accept the inevitable. Congratulations to Engineer Rashid for his victory in North Kashmir," Abdullah remarked in a post on X.
The voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir during the 2024 Lok Sabha election was impressive, according to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar. He highlighted the notable enthusiasm of the people, which demonstrated their eagerness to engage in the democratic process.
