Ghatkopar Hoarding Collapse
A terrible incident in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area claimed the lives of 16 people, including actor Kartik Aaryan's uncle and aunt. The tragedy unfolded on May 13, 2024, during a severe dust storm when a massive hoarding collapsed onto a petrol pump.
The victims, Manoj Chansoria (60) and his wife Anita Chansoria (59), were identified after a frantic search. The couple, who had recently retired, were in Mumbai for visa purposes before traveling to visit their son in the United States. Their car was crushed under the weight of the 250-tonne hoarding, leaving them trapped and ultimately taking their lives.
The hoarding collapse sparked outrage, raising concerns about illegal building practices and inadequate safety regulations. Reports indicate the hoarding was significantly larger than permitted, exceeding the authorized dimensions by a factor of three.
Following the identification of his relatives, Kartik Aaryan attended their funeral, paying his respects amidst an outpouring of grief from friends, family, and colleagues. Manoj Chansoria, a former general manager at Air Traffic Control, was also mourned by his professional circle.
The incident has cast a shadow over the Bollywood industry and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of enforcing safety standards in public spaces.
