Chief of Naval Staff's Visit to Greece Strengthens Bilateral Defence Ties

Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of India, concluded a landmark visit to Greece, marking the first such visit by an Indian Navy CNS. The visit aimed at reinforcing the growing defence relationship between India and Greece, with a focus on enhancing Navy-to-Navy cooperation, interoperability, and exploring joint defence initiatives.

Key discussions were held with senior Greek defence officials, including the Deputy Minister of Defence, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy. These engagements sought to strengthen diplomatic and military ties, emphasizing the importance of joint training, defence collaboration, and maritime security in both the Indian Ocean Region and the Mediterranean.

During the visit, Greece expressed interest in expanding joint maritime activities, including potential port visits and participation in India's Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta in December 2024. The two sides explored opportunities for enhanced training, including Greece offering FOST-level training and the possibility of a White Shipping Information Exchange (WSIE) agreement to boost maritime security.

The visit highlighted a shared commitment to a secure maritime environment and strategic alignment between the two navies, underscoring mutual respect and dedication to regional stability.
