The Maldives government has decided to prohibit Israeli citizens from entering the Indian Ocean archipelago, renowned for its pristine white sand beaches and upscale resorts. This move is a retaliatory measure against Israel in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Consequently, Israel has cautioned its citizens against visiting the island nation and suggested that those currently present in the Maldives should contemplate departing the country.
Amid the heightened tensions, the Israeli embassy swiftly issued a response, utilizing social media platforms to showcase stunning photographs of Indian beaches, ranging from Goa to Kerala. In a tweet on Monday, the Embassy of Israel stated, "Since the Maldives is no longer welcoming Israelis, here are some breathtaking and incredible Indian beaches where Israeli tourists are warmly welcomed and treated with the utmost hospitality."
The Israeli embassy's response included the recommendation of Lakshadweep, an Indian territory that attracted significant attention earlier this year when Indian tourists contemplated whether they should visit the Maldives or explore the beautiful islands within their own country. Additionally, the embassy highlighted other captivating destinations such as Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Kerala, as alternatives where Israeli tourists would be welcomed with open arms and treated with utmost hospitality.
Due to the ongoing conflict, the Maldives government on Sunday announced a cabinet decision to amend the country's legislation to bar Israeli passport holders from entering. According to a statement, current Mohamed Muizzu made this decision in order to "resolve to impose a ban on Israeli passports." The specific day that the new law will go into force has not yet been made public yet.
