Demonstrating a prompt and resolute reaction, INS Kolkata of the Indian Navy, currently engaged in Maritime Security Operations in the Gulf of Aden, swiftly intervened to rescue a Barbados-flagged Bulk Carrier. This comes on the heels of its recent assistance to the Liberian-flagged Container Vessel, MSC Sky II, both of which were reportedly targeted in drone or missile attacks. The incident took place on Wednesday, 6th March, approximately 54 nautical miles Southwest of Aden.
The Indian Navy further mentioned that essential medical assistance was extended to the injured crew members. The bulk carrier True Confidence reported a fire onboard following a drone or missile strike, resulting in the tragic death of three individuals, as reported by AFP. The remaining crew members suffered critical injuries, compelling them to evacuate the vessel. The incident occurred approximately 54 nautical miles southwest of Aden.
This incident marks the initial occurrence of casualties resulting from attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis. Over the past few months, these forces have consistently targeted merchant vessels traveling along the Red Sea trade route.
