On 25 November 2023, Vikrant Massey revealed that '12th Fail' has been sent to Oscars as an independent nomination from India. Vikrant revealed the news during a press conference and discussed how his career in films began when he was only fifteen years old. He intimated that he was forced to hunt for work and stated that he did not want his tuition fees to be a financial burden on his father.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra produced, wrote, and directed the film 12th Fail. The film was released worldwide on 27 October 2023 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. It is based on Anurag Pathak's 2019 nonfiction book of the same name, which tells the true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from terrible poverty to become an Indian Police Service officer.

Vikrant Massey plays the title role in the film, which also stars Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee. The film was primarily shot in Agra Chambal, Delhi, Mussoorie, and Mumbai. A significant section of the film was shot in Rajendra Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar, two education hubs for government job applicants.  After the success in Hindi, the film is also released in Tamil and Telugu languages.

The box office collection of the film is 60 crore to till now.
