On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Kapoor family members and discussed the forthcoming centenary celebrations of the renowned actor and director Raj Kapoor. Additionally, PM Modi posted the meeting's highlights on his social media account, X.
Prime Minister Modi said Raj Kapoor's centenary celebrations "symbolised the narrative of the golden journey of the Indian film industry." According to a government announcement, he pointed out that the 1947 film "Neel Kamal" had made "momentous" contributions over the years. The prime minister added that Raj Kapoor had created the nation's soft power before the term "India" was even created. This, according to PM Modi, is his enormous contribution to India's service.
In order to appeal to Central Asia, he also pushed the Kapoor family to produce a film on the renowned actor, who, according to PM Modi, is "still mesmerising the people there even after so many years." Additionally, he pointed out that Central Asia has a lot of potential for Indian cinema and encouraged the family to work hard at connecting with the younger generations there.
The late Raj Kapoor's daughter, Reema Kapoor, recited a few lines of a song from the late actor's film and thanked Prime Minister Modi for giving up his "precious time" for the meeting. The late actor might be considered India's "cultural ambassador," she added.
On December 13, 14, and 15, 2024, Ranbir Kapoor thanked the Centre, NFDC, and NFAI for their help in conducting a retrospective of Raj Kapoor. Additionally, he told PM Modi that the family has restored the audio and visuals in ten of the late Raj Kapoor's films, which would be shown in 160 theatres across about 40 Indian towns. He also told the prime minister that prominent individuals from the film industry will be present for the premiere show, which would take place in Mumbai on December 13.
