On that fateful evening, her husband, Boney Kapoor, had flown to surprise her, only to find himself engulfed in a nightmare. He discovered her lifeless body in a bathtub filled with water, after she failed to respond to his calls for over fifteen minutes.

Despite frantic efforts to revive her, Sridevi could not be saved. It was later revealed that she had accidentally drowned. Her untimely demise shook the nation, and her body was brought back to Mumbai, where she was bid a tearful farewell in her final rites.
