On Friday morning, at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, a 31-year-old on-duty female junior doctor was found dead. Her family claimed that she was raped and murdered. The junior PGT was found dead in the seminar hall of the hospital.
Additional CP Murlidhar Sharma and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal made an inspection visit to the location. According to police sources, a forensic team was dispatched to conduct a preliminary inspection of the body on the site. "The body exhibited scratch marks, indicating that there was some fight," the responding officer stated. "We are speaking with doctors, nurses, and other individuals who were on duty with her last night," police said, adding that "five people who were on duty with her on Thursday night are being questioned."
Along with Goyal, Health Secretary NS Nigam visited the hospital and spoke with high-ranking members of the medical institution. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly spoke with the doctor's family and offered them all possible support and condolences for her passing. Furthermore, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen pledged to conduct a “fair and comprehensive probe into the case.” "We will see to it that the truth gets out. Sen warned, "Strong action will be taken if anyone is proven to be engaged."
The Association of Health Service Doctors secretary, Manas Gumta, remarked, "My blood boils." Such an incidence, as far as West Bengal's history is concerned, has never occurred. The all-doctors association will gather in the hospital if our demands are not given due consideration. In a correspondence addressed to Chief Minister Banerjee, the Association of Health Service Doctors has requested a comprehensive inquiry into the issue.
