IPL 2024 will see Rishabh Pant play again for the Delhi Capitals, this time as captain.
Pant who had witnessed a serious car crash last year due to which he faced many injuries. Since then he was out of action as he was constantly on a recovery process.
It is unclear, though, whether Pant will make a comeback as a specialist batsman or, more likely, as a wicketkeeper-batter. Nonetheless, the team reportedly appreciates Pant’s dual roles as hitter and captain.
In November, Pant showed signs of potentially returning to the Indian Premier League (IPL) by attending a Capitals camp in Kolkata, where senior club support officials also attended. After that, Pant participated in the talks about keeping and releasing players before the next auction, which is set for December 19 in Dubai, as well as the creation of the preliminary auction plan.
With reports indicating that he has resumed batting practice and is handling deliveries topping 140 kmph, the Indian wicketkeeper has been improving steadily. Pant is one of the most anticipated cricketers to return.
On the other hand, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that if Pant is able to prove his fitness in IPL then he can make a comeback into the T20.
There is full faith that by the end of Feb’24, Pant would be regaining his fitness and lead the Delhi Capitals as a captain. The IPL would show as an important tournament for Pant to prove himself after such a long gap.
Sunil Gavaskar terms Pant as a ‘’game changer’’ and as one of the first few picks for the tournament for him, as a selector.
However, he shows full faith in Rishabh’s skills and believes him to be an impactful player.
