Pant's Ban Stands: Ganguly's Appeal to Reverse Slow-Over Penalty Fails

Rishabh Pant's one-match suspension for slow over-rate during an IPL 2024 match remains in effect. Sourav Ganguly, representing the Delhi Capitals, appealed the penalty, arguing factors like numerous sixes hit by the opposition and a lengthy review process contributed to the slow over-rate. However, the appeal lacked concrete evidence, and the IPL upheld the ban. Pant will miss the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Pant's Ban Stands: Ganguly's Appeal to Reverse Slow-Over Penalty Fails

Delhi Capitals' captain Rishabh Pant's one-match ban for slow over-rate remains in place after Sourav Ganguly's attempt to overturn it was unsuccessful.

This penalty stemmed from the team's third offense of exceeding the allotted time for their overs during IPL 2024. Ganguly, representing the Delhi Capitals in the appeal process, argued that factors beyond their control contributed to the slow over-rate.

One argument centered on the high number of sixes hit by the opposing Rajasthan Royals' batters. Ganguly claimed the standard Ball Retrieval Allowance (0.30 minutes per six) wasn't enough, given there were 13 sixes in the innings.

Additionally, Ganguly contested the time allotted for reviewing Sanju Samson's dismissal (a controversial call) as insufficient. He argued that Samson's protests added to the review time, which already exceeded 3 minutes.

However, the appeal was hampered by the team's inability to provide concrete evidence to support their claims. The lack of access to specific video footage restricted their ability to present calculations on ball retrieval times, reviews, and other delays.

With this absence of evidence, the IPL upheld the one-match ban for Rishabh Pant. This means he'll miss the upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
